The Future of GWG
It’s crazy to think that just a week ago, we were in Chicago celebrating the 5 year anniversary of Girls With Guts. We had nearly 80 women attend our celebratory weekend. Some of you from previous years, and some of you completely brand new. We explored the city, talked to some awesome people in the field, had a comedian tell us about his guts and butt, and most importantly, strengthened our sisterhood. You helped spread awareness, you helped strengthen the organization, and hopefully, when you left, you felt a little stronger going back to your day-to-day.
As many of you know, our founder and ultimate GWG, Jackie Zimmerman, has announced her departure from the organization. A lot of tears were shed at the Celebration, and after the fact. I’m sure a lot of you were left wondering, “Is this the end for GWG?”
Absolutely not! While one of our leaders has stepped down, Girls With Guts isn’t going anywhere.
Each and every day, another girl is joining our forum, another girl is being diagnosed, and another girl is being hospitalized with IBD. And each and every day, our members are still living with IBD, seeking advice, seeking companionship, seeking our sisterhood.
We will continue to provide the support that you’ve all come to know and trust.
We’re taking the next few months to improve ourselves and make the organization even better for you. The remaining board members are going to meet, plan, and collaborate to make Girls With Guts even gutsier. We’re here to support you, and we’re not going anywhere. We simply ask for your patience as we transition responsibilities.
But, we also ask that you keep your eyes open for volunteer opportunities! We are going to need your help and support as we continue to move Girls With Guts forward. And we want to work with you! So, if you’ve been thinking about maybe someday possibly volunteering for Girls With Guts, your opportunity is coming soon!
Or maybe you know someone who loves you and wants to be more involved with you and your IBD, and they’d make an awesome volunteer. Let them know, too!
We couldn’t be more excited for the future of Girls With Guts.
Thank you all for being there for us, and we’ll continue to be there for you.
