Girls With Guts Global 5K Recap

Yesterday was a big day for Girls With Guts! We took to the streets, wherever we were, and walked/ran/jogged/skated our 5Ks to raise awareness and to fundraise to support the 2017 Celebration.  Not only did we meet our goal for fundraising, but we surpassed it! Thank you to everyone who supported us.
The 5K took place in:
  • Kentucky
  • Eastern Oregon
  • Northeast Pennsylvania
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Forth Worth, Texas
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Livonia, Michigan
  • Muskegon, Michigan
  • Cherryhill, New Jersey
  • Omaha, Nebraska
  • Los Angeles, California
And this is a big deal. Why? Because, last year we decided to hold a Virtual 5K fundraiser without anticipating the kind of power it could have and raised over 5K! This year we raised over 10K and it was our most successful fundraiser for GWG EVER. And that's truly incredible.
Our top fundraisers were:
  • Ashley M.
  • Dana G.
  • Jackie Z.
And a big CONGRATULATIONS to the highest fundraiser, Joan O., from Muskegon, for raising $2,000.

"Today is the day! This was my first time participating in the #girlwithguts annual fundraiser and will be my first time participating in the #global5k and I am almost 5 months post op from having a total Colectomy with ileostomy. I am so happy to be a part of this group of wonderful, intelligent and thoughtful women. I hope to help spread awareness and help other women like me know, it's going to be alright, I promise." --Joan

"Girls With Guts came into my life at a time when I desperately needed it most. I had  just graduated from college and was rediagnosed with Crohn's disease after having lived with "UC" and a failing J-pouch for 8 years. I was brought onto the Board after our first Retreat in 2013 and have been involved ever since.  I walked along the beautiful Cynwyd Heritage Trail by my house in Philadelphia on a smoldering 90 degree day and sweat my BUTT off (pun intended) but it was worth every step because we KILLED our goal. Doing the #GWG5K is the LEAST I could do to support an organization that continues to lift me up." -- Alicia Aiello

"Girls With Guts was my light in the dark, after I was diagnosed with UC. I never thought I'd find anyone, much less an entire group of incredible women, who got it. I couldn't believe the amount of participation we received this year! Last year was my first GWG 5k, and I couldn't be more proud of this outstanding community this year. I felt honored to walk alongside my boyfriend and in solidarity with the rest of the gutsy crew across the U.S. It was a hot walk along Lake Michigan in Chicago, but it was worth every step." --Mandy Morgan

Shoutout to our amazing participants yesterday!
